The renovation and expansion of Munn Ice Arena has transformed a historic venue into a modern home for Spartan hockey. The 35,000 SF addition introduced a new glass entry façade, player development spaces, a hall of honor, and expanded public amenities, reinforcing the arena’s role as both a recruiting tool and a fan destination.
Structurally, the design demanded a seamless connection between the new addition and the existing arena, which is uniquely embedded into a natural sand dune. New framing systems and foundations were carefully coordinated with the original structure to support the elevated south-side expansion and integrate new program areas without disrupting the ice level below. The result is a durable and cohesive facility that honors the arena’s legacy while preparing it for decades of future use.
