U-M Wolverine Village

Higher Education|Housing

SDI Structures provided structural engineering services for Wolverine Village, the University of Michigan’s largest residential development in decades. Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the 14-acre community reimagines student housing by creating a vibrant residential neighborhood that fosters connection, collaboration, and campus engagement. The development includes five residence halls, a 900-seat dining facility, and supporting amenities organized around landscaped courtyards and pedestrian walkways, providing housing for approximately 2,300 students while advancing the University’s commitment to sustainability and student success.

The scale and complexity of the project required structural systems capable of supporting multiple building types while accommodating ambitious construction schedules and long-term campus growth. SDI collaborated closely with the design team to develop efficient, economical framing solutions that support flexible residential layouts, expansive common spaces, and active ground-floor amenities. The resulting structures provide the durability, adaptability, and performance expected of a premier student housing community while helping establish a welcoming new gateway to the University of Michigan campus.
