SDI Structures provided structural engineering services for the Michigan State University Engineering and Digital Innovation Center, now named the Leinweber Center for Engineering and Digital Innovation. The approximately 265,000-square-foot facility establishes a new interdisciplinary hub for engineering, computational sciences, and digital learning, bringing together six colleges to support advanced research, innovation, and workforce development. Designed by HGA in collaboration with Integrated Design Solutions, the project serves as a physical and symbolic gateway to MSU’s expanding role in areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, quantum computing, semiconductor research, and data-driven technologies.

The building is organized into distinct yet interconnected zones supporting both experimental research and digital learning environments, including flexible laboratory modules, clean rooms, active learning classrooms, instructional studios, and collaborative student and faculty spaces. SDI worked closely with the design team to develop structural systems capable of accommodating large programmatic demands while maintaining long-span flexibility, adaptability, and efficient coordination with complex building infrastructure. The resulting structural framework supports a highly dynamic academic environment designed to evolve alongside rapidly advancing technologies and research needs.
